Lions club of Payyanur is one of the oldest Lions club in Kerala, sponsored by Lions club of Cannanore in 1966. It has produced two district governors, Dr AV Karunakaran and Dr K Damodaran. Since 1995, it has own building at Thayineri, in front of Kurunni Temple.

The club has done lot of social services in the locality, including the major once of Xray building block at Govt Hospital, Payyanur a block at MRCH Special school, several houses for homeless. It's biggest and permanant project, Lions dialysis center was inaugurated in Mukunda hospital in 2013, and each year it carries out about 2000 dialysis, out of which about 40% are done free of cost.
